The flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, British Airways (BA) was the largest airline based on the size of their fleet, international flight schedules and international destinations including the number of passengers they transport annually up till 2008. The airline carried 34.6 million passengers that year but it was their rival carrier EasyJet that exceeded their benchmark and transported 44.5 million passengers.

British Airways is also a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, which has gone on to become the third-largest worldwide following SkyTeam and Star Alliance. This alliance is a partnership between American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Qantas and the now non-operational Canadian Airlines.

In 2011, British Airways merged with Iberia, and together they formed the International Airline Group (IAG), and created the world’s third-largest airline in in terms of annual revenue, making it the second-largest in Europe.

British Airways hold a United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Type A Operating Licence, permitting the airline carrier to carry passengers, cargo, and mail on craft with 20 or more seats.

With its main flights to South Africa landing in Cape Town and Johannesburg, passengers have a selection of British Airways’ Traveller (Economy class) or Club (Business Class). Priding themselves in customer comfort and satisfaction, BA airhostesses serve Woolworths favourite food with their new Café Cloud on-board service. A wide selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner is available to all passengers. Vegetarians have also been catered for.

In the Club cabin, passengers can expect a premium experience with personalised service, grander catering from the master chef on-board and a choice of award-winning wines. Club passengers can enjoy the Terraces Lounges situated at domestic departure terminals in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, including the Premier Lounge in Port Elizabeth.
